About Breezy Hills

Breezy Hills Winery is a family owned and operated vineyard and winery founded in 2004 by Darrell and Roberta Morse.   ownersThe three acre vineyard is planted to cold climate varietals that are used as the source of many of the award winning wines produced in the onsite winery.

Most days, it’s quite apparent how this winery got its name, because most days you’ll experience the Iowa breeze the minute you step out of your vehicle.  Seldom is there a day when it’s not breezy or downright windy at this hilltop location.

The winery and vineyard location is a scenic and peaceful one where you can relax and enjoy the wine and hospitality.  The views are breathtaking and change with the seasons.

Inside the winery, roughly two dozen wines are fermented each year providing a variety of palate soothing choices ranging from dry reds to sweet whites, fruit wines, and even a traditional bottle method sparkling wine to choose from.  Free samples are offered daily in the Tasting Room along with a light selection of food items for purchase.

Many people are unaware that Iowa as a whole ranked sixth in grape and wine production in the nation during the 1930’s, and the Loess Hills area of Western Iowa was perhaps the state’s premier viticulture treasure.  During the years to follow, Iowa’s grape acres were virtually eliminated by a combination of Prohibition, The Great Depression, a powerful new corn herbicide, and a destructive winter storm occurring on Armistice Day in 1940.  Since then, Iowa has come full circle from virtually no grape or wine production to boast nearly fifteen hundred acres of grapes and over one hundred wineries.  Breezy Hills Winery is proud to be a player in the resurrection of such a great industry in Iowa.
